12/25/2023 0 Comments Verizon mail convert to aolSo, after disabling 2-factor authorization, my single password works for my computer and my phone. I'm quite sure that after doing that I lost all my sent emails off the server and my other devices. Then I had to delete my account and then re-set my protocols which looked like the ones recommended on the site under the heading "Use POP or IMAP to sync AOL mail on a third-party app or download your email"- the agent told me to change my imap protocols to: incoming - outgoing. She said that the generated passwords on their website were only "temporary" and that I would have to disable the two factor authorization, if I didn't want to keep generating daily "temporary" passwords for my mac mail. When I finally spoke to someone at aol about this problem, the agent said that I had to disable two-factor authorization. The next day, my mac mail wouldn't recognize my temporary or permanent password and I had to start over the whole process from the beginning. So, it turned out that if you enable the two-factor authorization on your aol account, you have to generate a single "temporary password" for your other devices which only works for one day. What I didn't realize at the time of my original reply, was that I forgot that I had enabled two-factor authorization on my aol account. Hopefully this is my last update to my original post. Then follow the instructions listed here from aol:įor incoming mail server: enter "". Make sure you enter your email address in two boxes, I forget what those boxes were listed as, something like name and/or username/ email. Click that, you should see your name, under name, then enter your email address - For password> here is where you paste the password generated and copied from your AOL account In the column on your right you have the different mail apps available - you have to scroll up and bypass the AOL app until you see the generic blue icon with the symbol Mail account. (Warning - you may lose some emails in the process on your mac mail, but they should still be available on your AOL account if you go there directly). I didn't know how to reach the the screen to reconfigure the incoming and outgoing server settings on my old existing (verizon/new aol account) so I deleted it there. Go to System Preferences> Internet Accounts. You will see a series of letters, highlight and copy. This is what I did:įirst, on your AOL account, in the upper right hand corner click options> click account info - on your left click Account Security>Ĭlick Manage App passwords > Select your App (I use Mac Mail)> click generate. Just recently, I decided to change my password to my AOL account and had to start from scratch having my old verizon address on my mac mail working again. I had my switched over verizon account within AOL on my mac mail app and had been using it regularly on my iMac. I have removed and added my verizon account within my mac mail app several times on my iMac for different reasons.
